Professional actor and voice coach Acacia Danielson takes you inside the (virtual) actor’s studio to learn how to bring the words on a page to life. Every act of speech is an act of incarnation, the enfleshing of a thought, image, or idea into the sensible realities of sound, space, and gesture. Writing helps us preserve language and thought, but it can also deaden the impact of the spoken word. Each act of performance is a “resurrection” of language confined to a page, a rediscovery of its living and active quality. Come explore the nature of language and practice simple techniques to make reading poetry, prose, drama, and Scripture aloud a more invigorating act of communication.
Zoom link will be sent to registrants prior to the event.
Leader: Acacia Danielson is a classically trained actor & coach specializing in Mythic Language and Poetic Movement. Mythic Language evokes the spiritual, the fantastical, and the epic through heightened language plays. These include works of both verse and prose, by both classical and contemporary authors. Poetic Movement infuses naturalistic movement with physical theatre traditions (e.g. dance, mime, clown, puppetry, and stage combat) to maximize the potential of non-verbal communication. Hailing from the great Pacific Northwest, she is currently based in Washington, D.C.
